Finley Turns 7

 

Oh Finley, you're small, but looking less and less like our baby every day (although it's adorable how you say "whackamole" instead of "guacamole"). You're sweet, funny, adventurous, kind, helpful, and curious. You make connections and ask questions. Everyone likes spending time with you and teaching you things. You are lucky to have so many teachers around you. You share a room with Drexler still and you frequently sleep in the same twin bed. He reads to you and teaches you basketball drills/moves. Anica will set up "home school" for you on the weekends and teach you all sorts of advanced subjects/skills. Mikan likes playing basketball against you (or Air Ball, or Side Ball, or other games you two make up together), but they often end in you frustrated or crying. You'll grow out of that at some point...

You love all kinds of sports and are playing soccer, basketball, and wrestling this year (with Drexler). Your ball handling is improving, and it's fun to watch you play team sports. You are a good listener and very coachable, which the adults in your life appreciate (Mom and Dad, coaches, teachers, friends' parents, etc.)

You got your tonsils and adenoids removed in September and did well during recovery. You'd been having a lot of gagging/vomiting in school and home and, so far, the surgery seems to have eliminated it. You were snoring so loudly that we had to kick you out of Drexler's room until after the surgery. 

You've been interested in drawing and writing and want to publish your stories. I love that my kids also like writing! We are planning on self-publishing a book together now. You have just started to plan it out. 

You asked me to sing a Pink song to you before bed recently (I've been playing a lot of Pink because I recently went to her concert). It reminded me of how you have never liked lullabies. As soon as you were able to start talking you were requesting Imagine Dragons songs before bed instead of whatever soft, sweet song I had in mind. Only recently (when I was trying to calm you down before bed during a period of extreme pain post-tonsil surgery) were you able to verbalize that lullabies or soft, slow songs made you feel sad. So you requested a rock song instead! None of your siblings did that. You also really like dancing/hip hop (you and Drexler were the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and DJ Jazzy Jeff for Halloween), so maybe it's in your soul to be a dancer/performer/rock star. Dancing lessons might be in your future.
